Gard announced today that Christian Pritchard-Davies has been appointed Chief Financial Officer, effective from 1 January 2020. He is currently Vice President - Head of Infrastructure & Operations at Gard.

October is Cyber Security Awareness month and across the global maritime community, ports, ships and offshore units are increasingly connected to and dependent on systems that use cyberspace - the internet. Failure to anticipate and prepare for a cyber incident onboard a ship or offshore unit may have significant consequence.

Gard participates in the Getting to Zero Coalition, an industry coalition committed to developing commercially viable, zero-greenhouse gas emissions vessels by 2030.

Gard will be hosting a two-day conference on 17/18 October 2019 focusing on cargo fires on container vessels. Key stakeholders from across the industry, representing container ship operators, charterers, flag states, classification societies, insurance companies, salvors, fire experts and maritime organisations, will meet at Gard’s headquarters in Arendal, Norway to discuss prevention and mitigation of such fires. 

We are looking for a Claims Executive/Senior Claims Executive to join our Claims team based in Helsinki. The roles involves the day to day handling of P&I and H&M claims whilst working closely with Members, clients and other external parties.

We have added a second P&I correspondent in Amman and Aqaba, Jordan.

Rolf Thore Roppestad, CEO of Gard, today participated in the launch of the Sustainable Ocean Principles at the United Nations in New York. The UN Global Compact’s Platform for Sustainable Ocean Business has, in consultation with more than 300 stakeholders worldwide, developed the Principles in order to emphasise the responsibility of business to take the necessary actions to secure a healthy and productive ocean.

Gard announced the 2019 winners of the Claes Isacson Scholarship following its Annual General Meeting in Arendal on Friday, 6 September. The Scholarship winners for this year are Elizabeth Rust from the United Kingdom and Andreas Lervik from Norway.

Gard has always had a strong focus on knowledge and expertise and our staff has a wide range of backgrounds ranging from law, business and finance to marine biologist, industrial ecology and physiotherapy.

Last Thursday, 22 August Gard and the University of Oslo signed a collaboration agreement to finance an investment in insurance law.

Gard is a member of the International Group of P&I Clubs. The 13 Clubs which make up the International Group between them provide marine liability cover (protection and indemnity) for some 90% of the world's ocean-going tonnage.

The 2019 Annual General Meeting of Gard P. & I. (Bermuda) Ltd. will be held on Thursday, 20 June 2019 in Hamilton, Bermuda. This meeting is a requirement under Bermuda law and is a formality only. The Club's Members are not required to be present in person at the meeting.
