Gard employees participate during the Nordic version of the CFA Institute Research Challenge, an annual competition that encourages university students to challenge themselves with intensive training in equity research. 

Gard and the World Maritime University: how supporting one can benefit many


Gard has been a partner of the World Maritime University (WMU) since 2011. Each year, one student is offered a sponsorship, the Gard Fellowship, which covers the cost of one year of higher education within the marine industry.

An introduction to the International Group of P&I Clubs


Gard is the largest member of the International Group of P&I Clubs. The International Group currently has 13 member clubs which collectively provide liability insurance for more than 90 per cent of the world’s ocean-going tonnage and more than 95 per cent of the world’s ocean going tankers.

Gard participates in new project testing biodegradable lubricants


Gard, together with classification society DNV GL and the marine insurers The Swedish Club, Norwegian Hull Club and Skuld launch a new joint development project to test the potential influence of Environmentally Acceptable Lubricants (EALs) on failures in stern tube bearings. DNV GL will oversee the detailed laboratory testing of EALs at the University of Sheffield, UK.

Standard & Poor's has affirmed Gard's A+ long term insurer financial strength and counterparty credit ratings, with a stable outlook. 

CEO Update: Supporting the maritime industry for the next century


In 1907, Gard was founded to underwrite only the P&I risks of sailing ships – a single solution for one type of vessel. As the world and technology changed, so our remit widened and we began to accept steamships and tankers – and then expanded into the offshore energy and hull and machinery markets. Today our product range is the widest in the market and is still adapting to meet the needs of shipowners and our responsibilities to society.

Celebrating 250 years
