Although Gard has been active in the Japanese market, supporting local shipowners and insuring their P&I liabilities since the 1970s, it was only in the late 1980s it became possible to obtain a licence to open an office in Japan to write local P&I business. In October 1991 Gard obtained a licence from the Japan Financial Services Agency and the Japan Branch of Assuranceforeningen Gard was formally established.

What Gard Japan has been able to achieve over the past years has been remarkable. As we reflect over the past three decades, it is important to acknowledge those that have been part of the journey, each adding value and helping us grow in an ever-changing environment.
