Bjørnar Andresen, Gard’s Chief Underwriting Officer, said: “We are delighted that Akira Arii has agreed to join Gard's Japan office. Having spent more than 35 years in the industry, Arii has deep knowledge and experience of Japanese marine insurance and is very well known in the market. We look forward to him working with us to strengthen our partnerships with Members and clients in Japan.”
Arii will also be taking over as the Representative of the Japan branch of Gard, in anticipation of the forthcoming retirement of Shuichi Yoshida, who has held the position since 2022.
Bjørnar Andresen took the opportunity to thank Yoshida for his service, and highlighted the considerable growth Gard has achieved in Japan over the recent years: “With the recent expansion of our services in Japan to include not only P&I insurance but also Hull & Machinery, Energy and other products, we believe there is a lot of potential for further development in one of the largest shipping markets in the world.”
